Abstract

I'm having a show in October (I'll keep you posted), so I'm working on some new paintings. They are acrylic on paper and bigger than my usual stuff - measuring 30" x 44". I love working big! Go to my flickr account to see some smaller pieces that served as my inspiration.

Painting Workshop

I'm teaching a workshop called The Unbound Book: Painting Techniques for Book Artists at the Oregon College of Art and Craft on September 18th and 19th. Spread the word and help me fill the class. It's a really exciting class, fun and fast-paced. For more details and registration info check out OCAC's fall continuing education catalogue. To see student work from this workshop go to my flickr account.

Inspiration

It's still raining here in Portland, so I decided to visit my photographs from a recent trip to Mexico for some tropical inspiration!

Opening Night

I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures. My husband snapped this on his i-phone - you can't really see the artwork, but you get an idea of how the show was hung. Small but sweet.

What's New

Work in progress for my Posies cafe show in May. What is a Posie anyway?

Art Opening

Come see my new collage work at Ink and Peat this Friday April 9th from 6pm to 8pm. For this current collection of collages I was inspired by the work of 19th century naturalists. Every new plant was an exciting discovery, exotic and unusual. My studies are made from watercolor and gouache painted on tracing paper. I then cut out organic shapes and glue them onto vintage notebook paper to create my own 21st century specimens.

Spring Is Here

...at least in my studio it is. I'm working on some new watercolor collages for a show at Posies Cafe in May. They will be celebrating their one year anniversary, hooray Posies! I've been inspired by some of the things blooming in my yard right now - Bleeding Hearts, Euphorbia, Hellebore and lots more.

Letterpress

I finally turned on my Vandercook SP15 letterpress. The motor sounds a little creaky...might need a new gasket or something, but it prints! Pulled out a tray of wooden type, mixed up some ink and got in the zone. I do love printing - the movement, the sound, even the smell of rubber based ink. So, stay tuned for some printng and book arts projects.

Save The Date

I'm having a show of new work at Ink and Peat next month. Please save the evening of Friday April 9th for my opening. More details to follow. To see more new collages, go to my Flickr account.

A New Painting

This new painting, "Winter Pool", was inspired by hot springs at Yellowstone National Park. We took a trip there two winters ago and I was mesmerized by the amazing color of the pools. I've donated it to "Art on the Vine", an upcoming auction at the Oregon College of Art and Craft.

Mail Art Project

Art I've sent through the mail...

After my son Henry was born I had very little time to make art. And when I was able to get out to my studio, my attention span was short! So I made quick little paintings, often using watercolor, goauche or ink. On a whim, I started sending them to friends and my mail art project was born. I included a stamped, self-addressed envelope and looked forward to collecting the mail. Now in its second year, my mail art project still motivates me to make art. To see more images of art I've sent and art I've received go to my flickr account. To learn more about mail art check out this cool book about mail art ( my art is included on page 94).
